How To Wear Clip In Hair Extensions Guide

Human clip in hair extensions are a quick and easy way to transform your look, taking you from short hair to luscious long locks in just a few minutes. Although there are several types of hair extensions available, clip in hair extensions are the best for those who want an instant new look with the freedom to remove the extensions at the end of the night.

As well as adding length, clip ins can also be used by those with longer hair to add volume, making it easier to recreate the bigger styles currently trending. Bouffant dos in the style of Cheryl Cole and Sarah Jessica Parker are traditionally popular during the upcoming autumn and winter seasons so now is a great time to get practising with clip in extensions!

These types of extensions are temporary so can be inserted at home with no special tools or help required. Be sure that you buy human hair extensions rather than synthetic as human hair can be styled and heat treated, where synthetic hair can’t. This gives you the freedom to style your hair, straighten it or curl to complete your style. 

Getting Started…

To get started, take the hair out of the packet and brush it gently with a soft brush. The number of packets you need will depend on the length and thickness of your own hair plus the look you are trying to achieve. A standard full head set will be sufficient for most.

Applying The First Clip In Hair Extension…

Sitting in front of a mirror, section off your own hair. You should always start from underneath the head so using a clip, gather the majority of your hair up and clip on top of your head so you can insert the first set of clip in hair extensions without the top layers getting tangled.

Take one of the three clip wefts from your full head set and clip just below the parting you have created. Snap the clips closed to fix them.

Applying The Second Clip In Hair Extension…

Let a small amount of the hair clipped at the top of you head down. This should be just enough to cover the weft. Smooth out so that there is no visible bump.

Now, let a second small amount of hair down to create the second parting for the next hair extension to be clipped in. Once again, use a hair clip to sweep the rest of your hair onto the top of your head.

Using the same process as before, align the clip in extension with the parting you have just created and snap the clips close to secure the weft.

Repeat the above steps, letting down sections of hair to smooth over the join and then create a second parting, until all of the two and three clip pieces have been used up.

Applying clip in hair extensions around your face…

When all of the larger clip in hair pieces have been used up, you should be left with smaller pieces with just one clip. These can be scattered around your face to finish the look. Simply sweep hair around your face out of the way to create a parting and then clip in the single clip hair extensions. Use the same n umber of single pieces on both sides of your face to keep the look even.

To remove your clip in hair extensions…

Removing your hair extensions is quick and easy, just push the clips back on themselves to snap open and then gently remove. Never pull or try and push the extensions out as this may cause damage to your own hair.
