Amazing Climbing Walls
To the daring type, there are all kinds of activities that can get your adrenaline going without risking your safety. Whether you are young or old, you may enjoy the exercise and fun of climbing walls, especially because they make outdoor and indoor climbing walls at various levels of expertise. Children can find easy grips on shorter walls, while more progressed climbers can scale to new heights with all the correct gear. Indoor climbing walls can be found at a range of fitness locations, fairs and sometimes even sporting good stores. If you are considering regularly visiting a climbing wall for exercise, you will need to invest in your own work out clothing, climbing shoes and other equipment. It may even be more cost effective if you purchase a normal membership to the gym instead of paying for each visit at a time.
While some gyms have set up climbing walls, there are also mobile climbing walls that will go to various locations. A lot of these climbing walls can be used in sports courts, fairs, parks or even your own back yard. Usually, a mobile climbing wall can only hold two to four people, so make sure that that you are purchasing the right one for your needs. A mobile climbing wall may not come in the normal “wall” shape you are accustomed to seeing. Sometimes these walls might seem like boulders with lots of hand holds that blend to the design. These climbing walls are great when you want to have a risk-free place for the kids to play (without harnesses) in your own backyard.
With lots of different climbing walls, whether they are stationary or mobile, proper safety procedures need to be followed. In some instances, you need to have someone else with you who can act as a belay, however, some climbing walls feature an auto belay device that actually works by compressed cylinders of oil for a regulated decent. An auto belay device includes a system of pulleys instead of another human being to act as the anchor. This is very important, because with all climbing activities, safety needs to be your number one priority. Even if you feel confident in your climbing abilities, you should never attempt to climb a wall unsupervised or without some sort of auto belay.
Some folks may not like climbing walls, but they still might try a high ropes course. Children especially like playing on these courses, as they are suspended above ground, yet they are completely safe. If you are the kind who likes to experience the adrenaline rush of heights mixed with the athletic challenge of pushing your body to the edge, consider rock climbing and other climbing adventures to fill that need. Whether you turn out to be a professional or simply like to try it out for fun, it can be a great experience for children and grown ups alike.
