Crossfit Climbing Ropes
For all of you who do not know what Crossfit is, it’s a core strength and conditioning program. There are Crossfit gyms that you can go to and you can even do the Crossfit “WOD” or work out of the day on their website! Check it out I highly recommend it!
This program uses a lot of basic full body moves and basic equipment. One of the more popular items is the climbing rope. Climbing ropes offer many advantages for strength training. They give you a goal, strengthen your arms, back, legs, and core. They also work on your muscle endurance.
There are a few things you should know before buying a climbing rope. First what style of rope should you buy? An indoor gymnasium style climbing rope has a standard metal attachment at top. This is good for inside a gym or garage or even a high ceiling basement. You can also get an adventure style climbing rope this has a galvanized steel thimble at the top for attachment. This galvanized metal thimble will not rust and allows attachment in a more variety of ways.
The next step is deciding what type of rope you need. Manila is a natural fiber and ropes have been made out of this material for many years. You will want to make sure you are getting Grade A manila. Grade A manila is more tightly wound and does not fray as much as the cheaper stuff. You can also choose the Poly Pro or “Unmanilla” rope. This is a man made material that mimics the look and feel of the manila. It is stronger and lighter weight than the manila, two great advantages. The third style of rope is the best but has a little issue. That is the Poly Plus rope. Poly Plus is a softer material rope and offers the best UV protection. This rope happens to be the strongest and longest lasting of the three. The one issue is that it is a bit slippery before it is broken in. It is suggested to get this rope with knots so that it is useable right out of the box. Once it is broken in you can always take out the knots.
