Carving Out A New Man Cave

For any man in a home or some other dwelling, knowing how to go about perfecting the art and science of the man cave can be an important skill to exhibit on occasion, especially when moving into a new home or when space in the old home has opened up. For sure, get into the new home and stake a claim on a space before the movers get there. Then, get ready for big screen and home theater heaven.

This can really be the case when one looks at the typical household today, which usually consists of a wife and at least two kids. It can quickly become evident that there probably won’t be too many places in the house that a man will be able to call his own personal space. This isn’t to complain about the situation but rather to point out the need for a little space on occasion for the man of the house.

And even if there wasn’t something like a cave before maybe the kids have finally moved out and gone to college or are out on their own and discovering how hard it is to get up on time and go to work, for example. Maybe there’s now a room that will make for a good cave. It might be full of stuff right now — for example, who needs four home space heaters? — But it will soon become the cave of a man’s dreams.

And if there’s no room in the home, maybe Junior built an area in the garage where he and his bandmates got together to torture the neighborhood every Saturday night with their music. He’s now gone, leaving behind an old Epiphone electric guitar that’s seen better days, so take that area, vacuum the carpet and then get started on getting a really nice big screen TV in there, at the least.

This brings up just what needs to be in a nice man cave in order for it to be considered the place to be. Just about every such room features a very nice lounge chair and a super big television set, usually a minimum of 44 inches but, preferably, 50 or more inches in size should be the way to go.

It’s also the case that a good quality home theater system goes along with the TV and the lounger. Add in a small refrigerator for cold drinks and maybe even one of those theater popcorn makers and everything is almost there. And if the budget can’t quite handle all that, consider holding a garage sale and unloading that alpine skiing equipment that was used precisely one time 10 years ago.

It’s a fact that no man thinking about getting a cave is trying to duck out on any sort of family responsibility, but it’s also a fact that many a man these days could probably benefit from having just a little bit of space that he can call his own and where he can hibernate or tak in a Sunday afternoon football game. After all, what could be so wrong about that?

Yes, that’s a former Beatle in caveman costume for this more-dumb-than-funny 1981 comedy about a prehistoric misfit (Ringo Starr) who recruits other misfits to start a new tribe. The jokes about flatulence and sex are banal, but the cast of then-unfamiliar faces is fun to watch from the perspective of history. The best thing going are some dinosaur special effects, though Ringo might argue meeting…
